MORE ADVICE

AND THIS WAS TEN YEARS AGO!
This note is an addendum to my recent advice-column on how to travel when you are old and feeble:\

My  reconsidered advice is – DON’T!

This comes about because of my experiences yesterday.  I flew home from Borrego Springs, a flight of about 3.5 hrs duration.  My friends Jay and Penny accompanied me to Palm Springs, to see that I didn’t get into trouble.  Nevertheless – I managed to leave my cell phone, with my boarding pass on it, in the rental car.  It took an hour and extraordinary effort/ingenuity on Jay’s part to retrieve the damned thing.  Jay ran around, searching, while Penny (driving their jeep) puzzled over the delay – and I, of course, could only sit still around feeling old and stupid.

Well, I did get home, and after logging much time in the recliner feel able to compose this warning.  My current plan is to travel only by car in the future, and that with someone else doing the driving – and consign planes, trains, and auto-buses to the fondly remembered past.  But, unfortunately, I still want to go to Cordova to see my growing family, to Wisconsin to see the new herd of cows, and to Asheville to see Carolyn and the trees.

  2. 4/29/19. I take it all back! I have two, maybe three, airplane trips scheduled this year. I hope to survive.
